RachelRachel Keller is a fictional character from The Ring film series. The character was developed by writer-producer Ehren Kruger and portrayed by Naomi Watts, serves as the protagonist of The Ring and The Ring Two, sharing similarities with Reiko Asakawa from the first Japanese films.Introduced in the 2002 film, Rachel is an investigative journalist, who must find ways to escape death after watching the video of a cursed character that she discovered while investigating the death of her niece. Rachel is required to dig into the history of Samara Morgan when her son becomes ill with a mysterious illness. Ruth asks Rachel Keller as an investigative journalist to investigate the mystery surrounding Katie's death. Rachel is informed by Ruth, her sister, that she has discovered Katie's damaged body in the closet. She also revealed that Katie passed away from an attack on her heart. Katie's friends tell Rachel about the myth behind the tape that was cursed and how Katie's friend Becca was taken to an institution following Katie's passing. Katie's boyfriend, as well as two of her friends also died in strange accidents the night before at 10 after 10. Rachel goes to Shelter Mountain Inn, where she stays in Cabin 12. This cabin is one in which Katie and her friends saw the tape that was cursed. Rachel discovers the tape after which it calls. Rachel hears a voice utter "seven days". Rachel is identified as Noah Clay as a video analyst by her ex-boyfriend. In the future, Rachel discovers that Aidan the son of her with Noah, watched the tape just as Noah calls her and informs him that he trusts her. Rachel researches the lighthouse from the tape and discovers that it is located on Moesko Island, the home of a tragic horse breeder named Anna Morgan, who appeared on the tape that was cursed. After further investigation, Rachel discovers Anna had an adopted daughter, named Samara who had the power to burn disturbing images in the minds of individuals as well as animals and other objects. Rachel is introduced to Anna's widower Richard however, he takes her leave after she starts to ask questions about Samara.
