Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by her mother, her grandmother, as well as her godparents. Her father abandoned her family. When she was a infant, Ford struggled with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder caused through word-related associations. Ford became interested in the acting profession during her teen years, and became a member of the National Youth Theatre. She was accepted into Sylvia Young Theatre School but after a week, she decided that she wasn't a good fit. Ford decided to apply for admission to Central School of Speech and Drama and securing a place at the third time, applied and won an admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall - who later was the character Pete Tyler in Doctor Who was among Ford's classmates. Ford's first appearance on television was an episode in 1991 called Surgical Spirit. By the time she graduated, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate made appearances on television during the Nineties through shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. She also worked regularly in theatres, before eventually being a part of the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate was first noticed because of her stand-up comedic performances in 1996.
